IoTech Solutions Debuts with Platinum at Prestigious Brussels Innovation Competition
IoTech Solutions made a thunderous entry onto the global innovation stage in April 2025, clinching the prestigious Platinum Medal Award at the EUREKA International Brussels Invention and Innovation Competition—alongside three additional special awards from organizations in Canada, Türkiye, and Romania—with its debut product platform, the SecurePath AGV, an autonomous security and emergency-response rover purpose-built for retail environments, marking the first major milestone for the deeptech spinoff born from APU's CREDIT research centre and immediately establishing Malaysian robotics as a force to be reckoned with on the world stage; the rover itself is no ordinary machine, built on the SCUTTLE robotic platform with a durable aluminium structure and integrating a powerful suite of capabilities including SLAM navigation for autonomous patrolling without constant human oversight, Vision AI for fall and danger detection alongside facial-recognition support, an LLM-powered chatbot enabling natural voice and text interaction with shoppers, staff, and responders, and a servo-controlled medical dispenser that delivers emergency supplies on demand—all working in concert to allow the rover to independently navigate crowded retail spaces, identify emergencies, communicate effectively, and provide immediate medical support, thereby reducing the burden on human staff while dramatically improving safety outcomes, and this achievement was especially remarkable given that the platform was developed in close collaboration with a team of final-year APU engineering undergraduates—Chong Chan Heng, Goh Chuk Fun, Pang Cheng Hsiang, and Samantha Koay Yenn Xian—showcasing the company's founding vision of turning rigorous university research into commercially viable robotics that solve real-world problems, a vision guided by Assistant Prof. Narendran Ramasenderan alongside Mr. Krishna Ravinchandra and executive sponsor Prof. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, who affirmed that this recognition validates the pipeline from university research to a commercial spinoff capable of producing world-class technology, and for team member Samantha Koay, the achievement was as much about societal impact as engineering excellence, reflecting pride in a system that enhances retail security while enabling rapid emergency response; the Brussels Platinum win did more than earn accolades—it established SecurePath AGV as the cornerstone of IoTech Solutions' growing robotics portfolio, setting the trajectory for the company's subsequent platforms like MediGuard and SARVIDROS, and anchored by CREDIT's research ecosystem and APU's state-of-the-art facilities, IoTech Solutions continues to build on this early success, reinforcing Malaysia's standing as a rising hub for autonomous-systems innovation across the Asia Pacific region and proving that homegrown deeptech, born from project-based research and interdisciplinary collaboration, can not only compete but triumph on the global stage from day one.
